Before I start with the ideas for weird vending machines that
have not been tried yet, let me tell you about the newspaper
I am looking at. There is a photo of a big gold-colored machine
that vends... gold. Yes, the first gold vending machine in the
United States has now been installed in a mall in Boca Raton,
Florida. There is also a photo of a one-ounce gold bar that the
machine just dispensed for $1,442. You can buy smaller bullion
bars and coins as well, and you can pay using cash or credit
cards.
Although it seems a bit scary from the business side to have
perhaps a hundred thousand dollars in gold in a machine---which
makes it a tempting target for thieves--but otherwise I love
the idea. They should have machines that dispense silver and
rare coins as well. Maybe a jewelry vending machine would work
as well.
That story just opens up the mind to the possibilities, doesn't
it? In fact, I was going to sit here and brainstorm a dozen things
to sell in vending machines, but when I started to do some research
I found that almost everything is already sold this way somewhere
in the world. I found photos of machines that vend Eggs, umbrellas,
ramen noodles, rice, beer, toilet paper, shoes, poetry, art,
church candles, and used woman's panties. That last one on the
list is not a joke--the machine was in Japan, where there are
also other ones that sell film, fishing bait, flowers, flight
insurance, and fried foods--and that's just the "f"
entries from a collection of photos I looked through. They even
have machines that sell beer in Japan.
Check out this video that shows us
machines that vend pizza, hypodermic needles, and more:
Now, for what I didn't find...
As far as I could determine, there are no vending machines
that sell hot herbal tea, laptop computers, water balloons, foreign
currencies, house plants, snacks for pets or walking sticks.
How Much Can You Make?
There is no meaningful answer to this due to the incredible
variety out there, both in products and locations, but I suspect
that a gold vending machine does more in gross sales than one
which sells eggs.

that hold only a few dozen cans of pop can cost close to $1,000.
First Steps
1. Buy a machine. 2. Find a place to put it. 3. If it makes
